Is TLT a sure winner in this market?
Main Post:
Since we know for certain that inflation and interest rates will keep rising and will stay high for some time, is it safe to say that the 20-year treasury bond ETF "TLT" will be dropping at the same pace? Looks like shorting it is a guaranteed winner to me. What am I missing? Never traded bond ETFs before and was curious about what could go wrong if used Call Credit Spreads with this stock?

Public information is often priced in already. If everyone knows the information you're looking at, where is the edge? Not saying it's impossible but probably more effective in out of favor value stocks than something like TLT. I'd just caution against having strong conviction.
However, selling option spreads is a great way to indulge a directional view if you wish while still having theta working in your favor. Just don't go large thinking it's a sure winner.
Is Software Engineering a Winner Takes All or Auction Profession?
Main Post:
In Cal Newport's seminal book about focus, Deep Work, the author makes the case that the ability to zoom-in without distraction on a cognitively demanding task is essential to thrive in today's modern knowledge worker economy.
He also explains that every type of profession can be considered either a "winner takes all" type of market, or an "auction" market. In a winner takes all market, mastery (or at least proficiency) of one skill is the most important thing. In auction markets, it’s best to build and accumulate a variety of different skills.
I write my thoughts in this article, but what do you guys think? Is software engineering a "winner takes all" or "auction profession"?

I really don't like the wording that's used. Winner takes all makes it sound like only a few become extremely well off while others barely make it, such as being an actor. I don't even understand how the word 'auction' remotely resembles the necessity to develop multiple skills other than the 'multiple' aspect that multiple potential buyers are bidding for the same product.
Instead, I like the words breadth and depth better. Breath would be to auction as depth would be to winner take all. I believe our profession is a T-shaped skillset where it's most beneficial to have one or two things you're known to be really good at but also be capable to juggle other things as well. Up to the mid level I'd say it's mostly a breadth field, but if one wants to go beyond that level where they're independent and writes code to solve problems (L4/E4 at G/FB, L5 at Amazon, senior software engineers at startups, etc), being T-shaped becomes important. One can choose to dive deeply into technical knowledge, which means this person will be the one to bring up new technologies to leverage for the whole team's product. Or maybe a person is good at influencing and mentoring others so he'll be influencing widely in design meetings as well as bringing up junior developers up to speed.
